Thank you. I just spent an hour or more visiting your site.
I served in HMCS Rainbow. She was the USS Argonaut (SS475).
I still spend many hours cruising boat sites and reliving experiences of those proud sailors and of the legacy they left us.
Our experiences were not the same but we could feel, in our hearts, for those who sailed before '46.

My Dad served on the USS Pomfret (391). I have been looking all over the Internet for information regarding the USS POMFRET and his Captain, JOHN BORDEN HESS. My Dad is and was proud to have served in the USN Submarine Service and I have been researching various sites to find out more information about his sub the POMFRET and other submarines as well. I decided to stop by this site and browse. Thank you for providing this site and a glimpse of history.

Frank, I am just perusing the Guestbook during lunch so haven't checked the entire site lately. But, I wanted you to know that one of Blenny's famous Squadron Commanders died December 1, 2002. That was Capt. Edward L. Beach, author of "Run Silent, Run Deep". He was Squadron Commander in 1962 when I was aboard Blenny. Capt. Beach rode with us to Bermuda with an officer sub school class. I got a quick look at him in the Control Room across the gyro compass. Two years ago he was at the Mariners Museum in Newport News, VA during the Submarine Centennial. I was priviledged to be able to have him sign my Sub Qual Card from the Benny. (Yes, I still have it). More importantly, it should be known that Capt. Beach was probably the real "Mr. Submariner". He made many contributions to subs and other worthwile endeavors. Including writing a book to help clear the names of Admiral Kimmel and General Short who were blamed for the attack on Pearl Harbor. Those who read this message should search the web for information on this very humble contributor. Thanks, Frank. Keep up the good work on the best sub site ever. Taxi, Blenny '62.

Frank Toon eh, I believe I was refered to you for some information for the
NL Submarine Museum? I was looking for some Op Manuels for the 5" 25 Deck Gun.
At any rate, I am glad I copied your URL off a note I got from my old COB of Nautilus,
Barney Wixom . . . you have done a real fine piece of work! I am attempting to put
together a 'Time Line" for 571's up coming 50th in 2004 at New London. Your ships
history is a fine example of what we need to do. The whole site is fine. Thank's for the
effort, it was a treat and look forward to my grandson visiting when he gets older.

I would like all of you to know that I read aloud your words of respect and praise at the funeral service. Crossing the Bar
Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar
When I put out to sea
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound or foam,
When that which drew from out the
Boundless sleep
Turns again home,
Twilight and evening bell,
And after that dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell
When I embark
For though from our bourne of
Time and place
The flood may bear me far
I hope to see my pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar

It is with great sadness that I report that Andy Harchak died 1230, 2 November 2002. Loosing a hard fought battle with his greatest enemy, cancer.
Many of his mates contacted me when I first posted his name last year and asked me to forward their message to him. I would like you all to know that I did in fact deliver each message to him. Knowing that he was fighting his last fight, he choose not to repsond to your kind messages personally for reasons known only to him.
He and I discuss his tour of duty many times, as he passed on the many memorable events of the Blenny.
You messages brought smiles to his face in a time when they were most needed.
Thank you all!

Nice site. I was on the U.S.S. Chopper(SS342) and one of my best buddies was a cook on the Blenny,Rusty (Karl) Cooper. When they came down to Key West in 1960 I ate like a king! I believe Blenny was doing ops with Fleet Sonar School then. I'm glad I found this! Glenn

I like your site very much. I'm 23 years old and like the designs on naval ships. I like you cut-away of the sub. Subs are my favorites. I liked you music and siren as well :-)
